As a young girl, I enjoyed everything pink and glittery. I do not recall ever thinking about the future me. I grew up spending a lot of time with family until Aug 29, 2005. My life changed forever. “Hurricane Katrina became a large and extremely powerful hurricane that caused enormous destruction and significant loss of life.” That’s right! My family and I lost everything that day and that is the kind of thing you never forget.

Since then, I had lived in many states/cities, some temporary, some long-term, but one thing was sure, it was shaping me for the person that I am today! Of course at the time I had no idea this is who I’d become, I was simply living and being. From a Barista at Starbucks to a Program Director of Career Services and a Professor at a university, I am a testament to my own will. Every job I walked into, I left promoted. Every room I walked into, I left it better than it was and I left better than I was. Every person I encountered left feeling better than they did. It was an innate gift that I had and it took me far longer than it should have to realize it. To think everything took a turn back in 2005, maybe even from birth, for the better.
